Fort Frances, Atikokan Receive Provincial Gas Tax Money

Fort Frances and Atikokan are set to receive some money through the provincial Gas Tax program.

The money can be used to improve public transit and handi-transit services.

Fort Frances will get $72,298, while Atikokan is slated to receive $9,317.

Funding for the Gas Tax program is determined by the number of litres of gasoline sold in the province during the previous year.

Municipalities supporting public transit services in their community receive two cents per litre of provincial gas tax revenue collected.

Here is the breakdown of how much municipalities in Northwestern Ontario received in gas tax funding:

Thunder Bay: $2,262,966

Kenora: $143,366

Fort Frances: $72,298

Sioux Lookout: $51,219

Dryden: $42,005

Atikokan: $9,317

Machin: $8,984
