OPP To Examine Effectiveness Of Foot Patrols

OPP have plans to continue foot patrols in downtown Fort Frances at least until the end of July.

So far, 48 such patrols have been made since they started several weeks ago.

Police plan to study the results to determine how they will continue in the future.

Detachment Commander Inspector Nathan Schmidt says they are having an impact.

“Sergeants tell us on Monday they’ve known as fewer thefts but we are still waiting to see what the results will be by the end of July so we can actually have a clear understanding of what the issues were and then whether or not there has been any reductions,” says Schmidt.

Police started the foot patrols in response to increase reports of shoplifting and loitering.
