The Trillium Gift of Life is raising awareness about the critical need for more organ and tissue donors in our community.
President and Chief Executive Officer Ronnie Gavsie says by registering your consent you are making the caring and selfless decision to try and help save other lives after your death.
Gavsie stresses one organ donor can save up to eight lives and one tissue donation can enhance as many as 75 more.
She notes Ontario has more than 16-hundred people on the most medically urgent wait list for an organ transplant. That means there is no other treatment option.
Gavsie points out that unfortunately every three days we lose one of those people on the wait list.
As of March 31, 55% of Fort Frances residents had registered to become organ and tissue donors.
The provincial average is 34%.
