Lakers Roster Gets Shuffled

A number of roster moves by the Fort Frances Lakers in anticipation of a resumption of play later this month.

The SIJHL trade deadline was Monday.

The Lakers moved team captain Nakoda Thunderchief to Dryden GM Ice Dogs for forward Ian Kimble and defenceman Rylen Kleist.

Kimble, a 19-year-old from Livonia, Michigan, scored five times and added 15 assists in his 25 games with the Ice Dogs.

Kleist, another 19-year-old from Lethbridge, Alberta, played in 17 games with Dryden, registering three assists.

In a second trade, forward Mathieu Harrold and defenceman Brandon Rossetti have been moved to the Red Lake Miners in exchange for forwards Tyson Mallet and Rylin Philpott-Way and defenceman Kaden Whaley.

The deal includes Rossetti returning to the Lakers for next season.

The 19-year-old Mallet, who hails from Calgary, had three assists in 19 games with the Miners.

Philpott-Way, a 19-year-old from Fort McMurray, Alberta, had two goals in his second season with Red Lake.

Whaley, a 20-year-old from Okotoks, Alberta, played eight games with the Miners, recording one assist.

He also saw action this season with the Utah Outliers of the United States Premier Hockey League.

In other moves, the Lakers acquired defenceman Joshua Robinson from the Lakefield Chiefs of the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

The 20-year-old from Ajax, Ontario, also suited up for a pair of games with the Kam River Fighting Walleye at the start of the season.

The Lakers also picked up 20-year-old Dawson Lampi from the Thunder Bay North Stars for a player development fee.

The native of Thunder Bay is in his third SIJHL season, scoring two goals and adding one assist in eleven games with the Stars this year.

In a release, the Lakers coaching staff say the moves will bolster the lineup for this and next season.

The Lakers’ revamped roster is scheduled to face the Thief River Falls Norskies at the Ice for Kids Arena on January 28-29, pending public health restrictions being lifted.
