Ministry Looks To Weather For Help

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is hoping rain yesterday and today will help ease the fire situation in northwestern Ontario.

There are currently 170 active fires in the region.

Despite cooler temperatures and some light precipitation yesterday, there were still 24 new forest fires.

Two of those fires were in the Rainy River District, located at the south end of Quetico Park near the Ontario/Minnesota border.

Of the active fires, 83 are not considered under control.
