Construction of a new hotel is underway in International Falls.
An 86 room, four-story Cobblestone Hotel and Suites is being built on land near Highway 53 at the south end of the city.
It’s the first new hotel complex of its kind in International Falls in almost two decades.
Chief Executive Officer Brian Wogernese says they saw a need for higher-end lodging catering to the business class.
“A lot of corporate Travelers have a certain expectation especially even when they’re there for a week or several days or the company’s paying for, that kind of thing. We think we’ll fill that need then obviously, the weekends will have a lot of tourists,” says Wogernese.
Wogernese says it has taken almost six years to get to where they are.
He says it was a partnership with another group trying to build a hotel that got things moving despite the pandemic.
“It moved fairly quickly during one of the worst times in the hotel business. That’s exciting because we had International Falls on our radar for a long time.”
The new hotel is slated to open by late next spring.
Wogernese says it will come with a number of amenities.
“It will have a swimming pool, workout facility, an on-site convenience store for sundries, that kind of thing. It will also have a bar and grill. We are still working on the details for that,” says Wogernese.
When open, it’s expected to have a workforce of about 25.
