Two youths from the region recognized during Lieutenant Governors Legacy Awards

Two youths in the region have been recognized during the Lieutenant Governors Legacy Awards.

Both of the youth won the James Bartleman Indigenous Youth Creative Writing Award which recognizes Indigenous youth for their creative writing talent.

Loveena Nothing from Bearskin Lake First Nation wrote an essay on how volleyball shows how teammates work together to meet challenges.

Jersey Kakekayash from Weagamow Lake was recognized for writing a poem that expresses the essence of the forest, and how it informs the writer’s place in the world

Three awards and a scholarship are granted to 14 people each year in honour of the legacies of Lincoln M. Alexander, James Bartleman, David C. Onley, and Hilary M. Weston.
