Two Injured in Boating Accident

Two people from International Falls were severely injured following a boating accident on Rainy Lake.

It happened last Thursday, just before 11:30 p.m.

Koochiching County Sheriff’s Department says a boat struck a rock causing the motor to land inside between the operator and a passenger.

The motor was still running at the time, causing significant injuries to the passenger’s right leg and to the operator’s left arm and left leg.

The two men, aged 34 and 32, where transported to shore by another boater. Emergency personnel tended to the victims when there arrived before they were transported by ambulance to Rainy Lake Medical Centre.

They were later airlifted to another hospital for treatment.

The men’s conditions are not immediately known.

Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
