Taking Action On Blight

The city of International Falls is taking some action to deal with unsightly properties.

Council agreed this week to issue notices against two residential properties and a commercial site.

City solicitor Steve Shermoen says the notice gives owners 45 days to either make repairs or tear down the buildings or have it dealt with in court.

“They basically, in this order, have a period of time to take steps to prevent it from going to court,” says Shermoen.

In one of the cases, city officials had to evict tenants from a home because of its poor condition.
