Support For Local Businesses

The Northern Ontario Recovery Program is supporting 187 businesses in Kenora-Rainy River during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program was established specifically for northern Ontario businesses to help stay afloat during the pandemic.

A total of $25 million was made available. Nearly four million in grants went to small and medium-sized businesses in the Kenora-Rainy River Riding.

MPP and Northern Development Minister Greg Rickford says the program was especially beneficial to the tourist industry.

“I don’t think there is anything wrong, when this is all over, with having double docks space and larger decks,” says Rickford.

“The flexibility we want to provide that we wanted to provide for businesses to adapt and pivot and respond. Not to work through the different challenges, the different levels of restrictions, but to provide some legacy assets, if you will.”

The grants were flexible and could be used for building renovations and new construction, marketing initiatives, restructuring of operations and the purchase of PPE and other safety equipment.
