Some Garbage/Recycling Not Getting Picked

Some homeowners in Fort Frances have been missing out on garbage and recycling day.

The town reports garbage was not collected at fifteen locations at different times in January. There were two such cases in December.

Environmental Superintendent Craig Miller says it’s not unusual.

Typically in January, after the holidays, we tend to get some heavier bags, and they didn’t get picked up because of the weight limit,” says Miller.

There is a 40 lbs. limit on garbage per bag or can.

It’s the same for recycling.

The town clarified the weight limits and bin sizes for recycling with bylaw revisions at the beginning of the year.

There were forty-four times when household recycling was not collected at curbside in January.

“It was a bit of a combination of both the Christmas rush and the new bylaw. Some people were using oversized containers and overweight containers, but (it) seems to have settled down.”

There were thirteen houses in December where recycling wasn’t picked up for the same reasons.
