It has been a warmer than normal winter so far this year, but do not get too complacent.
Environment Canada’s David Phillip predicts by the last week of January Northwestern Ontario could be in the throes of a Polar Vortex albeit short-lived.
“It may be a one-week to ten-day episode,” explains Phillips adding “We see February coming out to be warmer to warmer than normal.”
The senior climatologist explains even when it does get colder, he predicts the temperatures could be only slightly below normal for this time of year, so “The afternoon temperatures, instead of being like you know minus nine they may be more like minus 13.”
Phillips concludes by saying “My sense is that the Polar Vortex might show up but it’s not going to be the bogeyman that some people think it is.”
