For the second time during this federal election, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is making a tour through northwestern Ontario.
A rally was held in Thunder Bay on Sunday after Singh made an announcement earlier in the day in Sudbury.
Much like his previous events, he focused strongly on making the super-wealthy pay their fair share.
An NDP release after the announcement stated that Canada has lost $146 billion to corporate tax avoidance since the Liberals came into power.
Singh stuck with this topic while in Thunder Bay, criticizing Justin Trudeau’s handling of the super-rich since 2015.
“I don’t know if you saw the news, but Justin Trudeau today said we can’t take on the super-wealthy. He said it’s not possible. You can’t take on the billionaires,” stressed Singh. “I’m not surprised. He’s been working for the billionaires. If you want someone to take on the billionaires, you have to vote for the New Democrats.”
Around 200 NDP supporters showed up to the meet and greet.
The NDP Leader went on to say that if elected he will work to ensure northern Ontario will have its voice heard and that he recognizes the challenges the region faces.
“They want better access to healthcare. There’s concerns about the rising cost of housing, medication coverage would make a big deal, and access to the internet,” explains Singh. “For northerners, we want you to know that we’re here for you. We’ll be there for you. We’ll fight for you.”
Singh mentioned that the NDP has a strong history in the north, noting that none of the other federal party leaders have been to northwestern Ontario during this campaign.
