The Salvation Army is hoping residents of Fort Frances will come through once again.
The agency has its Christmas Kettle campaign in place, which started on November 13th.
Auxiliary Captain Arthur Heathcote says if the summer is any indication, public support will greater than ever.
“Over the last number of months we’ve seen a 58 per-cent increase in foodbank use, which means those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 are really feeling the pinch this year.”
He tells us that residents support last year allowed them to function during the pandemic.
“We actually increased from six to 30 hours per week throughout the pandemic, and no one needed to go hungry thanks to the support of the community.”
Heathcote adds that the revenue is important to keep their programs and services available to those in need.
“The Kettle campaign helps to fortify those efforts along with the other campaigns. We’re looking forward to being able to meet each and every need that we encounter this year.”
He says that many of those same families have applied for their Christmas hamper program.
