The Rainy River District School Board is recognizing some of the people and organizations that have helped during this school year.
Cynthia Vanuden is the Volunteer of the Year.
She was nominated for her support at Fort Frances High School’s musicals.
“I spent most of my school career in extracurricular programs between dance, musical reviews, and band, and I know how important these are for me then,” says Vanuden.
“Without the volunteers, they aren’t possible. So, it’s an honour to be in this volunteer role now.”
Community Living Fort Frances is the board’s Partner of the Year.
Education Director Heather Campbell outlined accomplishments achieved by the two organizations working together.
“One of the key accomplishments include increasing the Core Program hours at both Fort Frances High School and Rainy River High School, which helps our students in need, providing them opportunities for co-op experiences,” says Campbell.
“The Student Transition Support Lunch at Fort Frances High School, which provides essential information to families on the application process and the process to how to navigate the transition to community services.”
“And most recently, in May, we had the Support Students with Disabilities event that saw 13 local organizations and over 80 community members come out to share vital resources with families.”
Three employees share Employee of the Year Honours.
There are Nikki Armstrong, Manager of Rainy River District Transportation Services Consortium; Shannon Schmidt, Education Assistant from Fort Frances High School Intermediate 7/8 program; and Rebecca Tolen, Youth Outreach Worker at Robert Moore School.
Murray Nielson and Tom Duchnicki were named Bus Drivers of the Year.
