Provincial government working to support healthcare in Rainy River

The Provincial government is working with Riverside Health Care Facilities to develop a plan to address health human resource strain across the Northwest.

“Northerners deserve care when they need it in a convenient and safe location,” Said Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford. “We are actively collaborating with our healthcare partners to ensure that the highest standards of patient care are consistently met.”

“Keeping the emergency department open is a priority for our government, as it provides crucial services to the people of Rainy River and the surrounding area.”

This comes as the District of Rainy River Services Board calls on the provincial government for more healthcare support.

They say shortages are an issue across the healthcare sector for small rural communities.

The board has made several requests for provincial support, including a targeted recruitment campaign to attract paramedics to rural and remote areas like the Rainy River District, and an additional 100% provincial funding for rural and remote services to help with recruitment efforts.

It was also announced last week that doctors were pulling out of the community leaving Rainy River Health Centre without emergency room coverage.
