Programming To Resume But Seniors’ Centre Still Closed

Some programming offered through the Sister Kennedy Centre in Fort Frances is expected to resume next week.

It was put on hold with the provincial lockdown put in place at the end of December.

The town’s Recreation and Culture Manager Aaron Bisson says with the area back to the Yellow-Protect zone, they hope to resume activities as they were before the lockdown.

“The shop is going to be opening again on the schedule that it was previously operating under. The exercise classes and the BINGOs and other activities that we had going on previous to Christmas are going to start up again up in the auditorium, the line dancing at the East End Hall,” says Bisson.

The Centre itself is still closed to the public. When that changes remains a bit of an unknown for the town.

“That’s a tough one to gauge at this point. You’re dealing with the most vulnerable population in the seniors, and it depends a lot on where we are as a district and what the public health guidance is the time.”

The Centre has not been available to seniors since the start of the pandemic last March.
