A busy weekend for Thunder Pride as it hosts a major 2SLGBTQ Pride conference.
The Fierté Canada Pride annual gathering is happening virtually this weekend, gathering delegates from Pride organizations across the country.
Thunder Pride Chair Ashley Moreau explains “Navigating Together” is the theme for this year’s conference, with a focus on sharing strategies, resources and ideas.
“[We can] lend that hand out to everybody, and say ‘hey, I have an idea, this might work for you,’ and having those networking opportunities with the Vancouver Prides, and the Winnipeg Toronto Prides, and all the really big prides,” they say.
Moreau says there’s a silver lining to making the conference virtual, especially for smaller Prides and people from areas without a Pride group.
“It’s actually giving an opportunity for people that maybe wouldn’t have been able to attend it in the past, [but] could actually attend now. So it’s a little bit of a blessing in disguise that it’s going to be so accessible to people right now,” they point out.
The conference starts at noon Eastern time and includes speakers from the Northwest, and workshops about topics like inclusivity, planning a Yukon Pride centre, and decolonization. It concludes Sunday evening.
