True crime documentaries remain one of the most popular genres, especially on Netflix. I’m always noticing one or two titles making the global top 10 list.
Here is a list of the new true crime documentaries you can indulge in this weekend:
Trust Me: The False Prophet
Trust Me: The False Prophet is dominating Netflix Canada, taking the No. 1 spot in the TV show category.
This four-episode series follows cult psychology expert Christine Marie and her husband, Tolga Katas, who also happens to be her videographer. They move to Short Creek, Utah, for one thing: to help a community that may be in grave danger. When the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) loses its prophet, Warren Jeffs, followers are left in desperate need of guidance. Samuel Bateman enters the picture as a self-proclaimed prophet, and the situation quickly takes a turn for the worse.
The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson
This 97-minute documentary explores the life of cyclist Moriah Wilson, whose life was cut short in a tragic murder. It’s currently sitting at No. 2 on Netflix’s Top 10 movies in Canada.
This film “tells the story of loss, love, and the ways that grief can reshape our lives, while also revealing moments of resilience and transformation — even in the darkest of times,” according to Netflix Tudum.
The Predator of Seville
Currently at No. 7 on Netflix Canada, this documentary series focuses on the stories of families who sent their daughters abroad and how that decision changed their lives forever.
Homicide: New York
The second season of Homicide: New York has recently been added to Netflix.
Each episode follows a different story where Homicide detectives work to solve some of the city’s most grueling cases.
The TikTok Killer
The TikTok Killer is a limited series, consisting of just two episodes.
This case trails back to Esther Estepa, who goes missing after spending her last days with a travel influencer.
