Portage Ave. underpass to close for a day

A key link to the north end of Fort Frances will be shut down on Tuesday.

The Portage Avenue underpass will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The town says it is necessary so work crews can complete the painting of the name across the CN bridge.

Temporary barricades will be installed on Portage Avenue at Third and 5th Streets.

Provisions are being made to allow emergency vehicles to have access in the event of an emergency.

The underpass will be open to pedestrians.

All other motorists will be required to access the north end by using McIrvine Road.

The sections of Third and 5th Streets that have been closed because of the work to the underpass and bridge services are being reopened on Tuesday as well.

The town says the contractor, Thunder Bay Multi Trades, expects to complete its work by Wednesday.
