Police seek snowmobiler who went through ice

The Ontario Provincial Police are looking to talk to the driver of a snowmobile that broke through Rainy Lake Wednesday afternoon.

Police received a call about a machine going through the ice at around 1 p.m. near Five Mile Dock Road in Couchiching First Nation.

Witnesses told police they saw the operator exit the icy waters and leave the scene on a separate machine.

Police would like to make contact with them to ensure they are okay and that no other person was aboard when the machine went in.

The OPP’s Emergency Response Team and a canine unit have also been deployed to assist in the search.

Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
