Police Lay COVID-19 Restriction Charges

What may be a first for northwestern Ontario, a 66-year-old man from Thunder Bay faces a charge under the Reopening Ontario Act.

OPP were alerted Sunday and found the man hosting a gathering of 23 people inside the Shuniah township home.

The charge is hosting an event at a residential premise that exceeds the number of people permitted. It carries a fine of $880.

Under the current lockdown restrictions, indoor gatherings of any size with those other than in your own household are prohibited.

Police are asking everyone to take the public health measures seriously. The law is in place to protect everyone against the spread of COVID-19.
