More donations on the weekend for two area agencies.
The Salvation Army, with help from the Fort Frances Muskies girls’ hockey team, collected 331 pounds of food and 52 toys during the Christmas parade in Fort Frances on Saturday.
Auxiliary Captain Arthur Heathcote expressed his appreciation in a Facebook post.
“The girls decorated the Van and marched alongside us during the parade, resulting in 331lbs of food and 52 toys collected along the route,” Heathcote writes. “93.1The Border promoted the event all week long, which contributed to a highly successful evening.”
“It will be a happier Christmas for those in need because of your efforts,” he continues. “I’m truly blessed to call you friends and for the support you’ve shown. Thank you, Fort Frances for (your) unending, faithful support.”

The Fort Frances Canadians under 18 hockey team were also in the parade doing a collection of their own for the United Native Friendship Centre.
They amassed a large collection of non-perishable food, hygiene items, hats and mitts.
The team says they will have a better idea of their efforts when they present the collection to the UNFC later this week.
