Outbreak declared over at Emo hospital

Visitor restrictions imposed at Emo Health Centre have been lifted.

They were put in place last weekend because of a gastrointestinal outbreak.

Riverside Health Care is now declaring the outbreak to be over.

Riverside says while restrictions on visitors and residents are no longer in place, its safety procedures and infection control practices will remain.

Riverside also advises residents to take steps to prevent the spread of infections.

This includes:

• Washing hands often, for at least 15 seconds with soap and warm water or by using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer;
• Maintaining good cough and sneeze etiquette, (into a tissue, your sleeve or elbow);
• Immediately putting all used tissues in the garbage;
• Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, or mouth; and
• Staying at home if sick, to avoid spreading infections to others.
