Almost 14 drivers have been taken off northwestern Ontario roads by provincial police since the beginning of the month.
Constable Jim Davis tells us it doesn’t necessarily mean more people are driving impaired, it could just mean the ones doing it are getting caught.
“We are seeing a few people re-offending, and then we’re seeing a few who are finally being caught who have just gotten away with it, and or we’re coming across people who we haven’t encountered before.” says the Constable.
OPP is crediting a number of factors, such as improved technology getting to drug and alcohol-impaired drivers, but it’s also those drivers not impaired calling the police.
“Not that it always hasn’t been, but people are always willing to report that, and we’re happy to take anonymous complaints, to make the roads safer and we’re grateful for that.” noted the OPP officer.
