OPP Kicked Out Of Pikangikum

Some serious accusations against the Ontario Provincial Police by leaders in Pikangikum First Nation.

They have expelled the OPP from the community over unspecified allegations by constables which have occurred “over many years.”

“Pikangikum needs to know about potential threats to our Community, especially when that threat comes from the people we entrust to protect our members,” said Pikangikum Chief Dean Owen.

“This is not a course of action we take lightly and the consequences are far reaching.

Trust between our organizations has been broken and has caused an unsafe situation within Pikangikum which can easily escalate.”

As a result nurses are leaving which means health services are no longer available 24/7. The expulsion appears to have been the result of a “recent incident” which brought “these issues to light again.”

Meantime, the OPP say the province’s Special Investigations Unit has been asked by the force to investigate.
