OPP hold open house/recruitment drive

The OPP are through the doors open to their Rainy River District detachment later today.

The police service is holding an open house to recruit new people interested in a career in policing.

Recruitment Officer, Constable Brad Scoyne, says recruitment officers will be on hand to discuss the opportunities available.

“There is an opportunity for anybody interested in a career with the Ontario Provincial Police, whether that’s uniform positions which include provincial constables as well as special constables, and as well as civilian employment opportunities with the Ontario Provincial Police, which would be jobs like our provincial dispatch centers, assisting a detachment with different administrative functions and any sort of analyst work that needs to be done. We have civilian employees that assist the OPP with that,” says Cst. Scoyne.

The province made it easier to attend police college, having waived the tuition fee to enter.

Scoyne adds there are many jobs available for officers across the province.

“There are lots in the Rainy River District and (in the) Northwest region. Many great locations across the district where you can go to work, beautiful spots with really great people.”

OPP will also feature several specialty units, including marine, Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Traffic Enforcement.

The open house begins at 3 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m.
