No Canada Day Celebrations In Fort Frances/Kenora

The City of Kenora has announced that it is postponing its fireworks planned for Canada Day.

In a release, the City says the decision is about, “letting Indigenous and First Nations Peoples know that we see them, we mourn with them and we support them.”

The announcement comes only a few days after a letter from Shoal Lake 40 Chief Vernon Redsky asked the city cancel festivities.

There are no Canada Day activities or fireworks planned for Fort Frances.

They were cancelled earlier this year because of the uncertainty of the pandemic.

A fireworks display may happen during the August long weekend or Labour Day weekend if public health guidelines permit.
