Destination Northern Ontario and Travel Manitoba are working together on what they call the Heart of Canada Touring Route.
Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls Community Development Officer Heather Gropp says it’s to promote travel opportunities between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay.
“The unique piece about this route is that it travels kind of in a figure-eight. You can choose your own adventure, and it’s going to grow and expand, but initially, it’s a ten-to 14-day itinerary,” she explains.
Gropp adds the two cities offer access to an international market with their major airports and cruise lines coming to Thunder Bay.
Gropp says they plan to officially launch the initiative next summer at an international trade show in Winnipeg.
“We’ve already confirmed or are in the process of confirming media trips through the route this summer to start the hype and promotion,” she notes.
