New playground equipment possible this summer

The town of Fort Frances has started a search for someone to replace the playground equipment at Legion Park.

The replacement is tied to the planned development of the splash park.

The town wants a firm that can offer new designs and ones that match that of the splash park.

The teeter-totters and swing sets are to remain but could be replaced or modified to make them more accessible as part of a separate project.

Firms are being asked to submit three designs.

“Firms are encouraged to consider traditional structures as well as natural play features within their designs. All designs shall consider
accessibility and maintainability as primary,” states a document outlining the scope of work proposed.

The successful bidder would then meet with the Make a Big Splash Spray Park Advisory Committee in April to make a recommendation for council to consider.

It is hoped a contract would be issued by the end of April for work to begin as early as this spring.

The town intends to have a parks and cemeteries works crew do the installation but is asking the successful bidder to oversee the work and provide support.

The estimated budget is set at 150 thousand dollars.
