The Northwestern Health Unit is now confirming five new cases of COVID-19 cases in the Rainy River district.
There are now seven active cases in that area.
Riverside Health Care reports one of the cases in Fort Frances. The others are in the town of Rainy River.
Northwestern Health Unit says it’s making contact with anyone who has been identified as a close contact.
Riverside Health Care is putting in place new visitor restrictions at its long-term care facilities in light of the recent cases.
All general visits are cancelled, with residents still permitted one designated caregiver.
Essential or palliative visits will continue.
All short term and temporary absences are cancelled unless for medical appointments.
Riverside is also conducting regular testing of staff and residents at the long-term care facilities with a more focused approach at LaVerendrye Hospital.
