NDP Members Ejected During Question Period

A raucous session of the Ontario Legislature.

At least 15 members of the NDP were removed after continuing to speak after they were warned.

Interim Leader Peter Tabuns was also ejected after he accused the government of lying about the Back to Work Legislation.

“When will the premier and the rest of his ministers stop lying about the damage they are doing to the education system,” Tabuns told the Ontario Legislature before he was drowned out by catcalls from the government side.

Speaker of the House, Ted Arnott, asked Tabuns repeatedly to withdraw his comments.

“You are named. Mr. Tabuns, you will leave the chamber for the day.”

The NDP is upset about the government’s use of the Not Withstanding Clause of the Canadian Constitution to pass the Back to Work legislation for education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Bill 28 could pass as early as today.
