Muskie Study Underway

Two lakes within Voyageurs National Park are being closed temporarily.

It’s to allow the National Park Service and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to study the number of muskie in Shoepack and Little Shoepack Lakes.

Shoepack Lake was impacted by a beaver dam in 2001, reducing its size by 47 per cent at the time.

It has since recovered but officials aren’t sure what impact unstable lake levels have had on muskie.

The lakes will be off limits to the public between now and May 24 and again from July 1-14.
