The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association wants more COVID-19 vaccines made available in the region.
It is concerned with the recent rise in cases.
President Wendy Landry says both Thunder Bay and the northwest as a whole should be considered hot zones.
“Thunder Bay is a hotspot area, but we know, we talk about per capita, our communities in the west are hot spots too. So we’re advocating for more vaccines to come up this way because we need to stop the community spread. Our communities can’t handle it if our numbers skyrocket,” says Landry.
Landry would like to see the province set up mobile clinics to ensure as many people are vaccinated as soon as possible.
She says our communities are vulnerable, and businesses are suffering. More vaccines and additional financial assistance would go a long way to protecting northwestern Ontario from the impacts of COVID-19.
