Minister of Children, Community & Social Services resigns

A member of the Ford cabinet has suddenly resigned.

Merrilee Fullerton, the Minister of Children, Community & Social Services, announced her resignation this afternoon after speaking with Premier Ford.

She is also stepping down as the MPP for the Ottawa area of Kanata-Carleton, a position she has held for the past five years.

Fullerton offers no explanation for why.

In a letter of resignation handed to the Premier, Fullerton says the resignations are immediate.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve Ontarians as a member of provincial parliament and cabinet minister over the past five years,” states Fullerton.

Premier Ford’s announced late in the day that Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill MPP Michael Parsa would take over as the new minister.

“I’m thrilled to recognize Michael’s many contributions to our government,” states Ford in a release. “Michael will work day and night to support our children and build strong and vibrant communities.”

He also acknowledged Fullerton for her work in cabinet.

“Merrilee has been a key member of our team since day one, advancing our government’s agenda to build Ontario and helping to lead our response to the COVID-19 pandemic by serving in important roles in Cabinet. I wish my friend the very best as she retires from the world of politics.”
