The provincial opposition calls the shutdown too little, too late.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath says we should never have reached this point.
“The variants of concern, the speed at which they spread, the overwhelming of our hospitals, healthcare system–this is exactly what the experts warned of back in February, when Doug Ford basically said things were looking rosy,” she argues.
Horwath says the shutdown will only prolong the suffering of businesses that are struggling and people who are frustrated.
“They’re worried about the future, they’re having a hard time hanging on, small businesses continue to close because the government simply hasn’t been there to support them,” she notes.
Horwath calls the lockdown a failed approach that will only fail again.
Meanwhile, Liberal leader Steven Del Duca has also said he feels the lockdown doesn’t go far enough.
