Couchiching Raiders have sole possession of first in the Rainy River District Women’s Fastball League following a 5-4 win over the Fort Frances Her-ricanes.
That’s the ‘Canes first loss of the season while the Raiders improve to 6 and oh.
Grace Brag picked up the win on the mound for Couchiching.
Elsewhere Northwest Bay defeated the Fort Frances Angels 13-4.
Darcy Smith pitched for the win.
Rylee Redford with a homer for the Angels in a losing cause.
Charmaine Hunter homered as Dawson won its first of the year, beating Manitou 17-11.
Cassie Teeple earned the win.
Karma Andy and Mykenzie Borger hit homers as the Renegades defeated Red Gut 18-3.
Andy also earning the victory on the mound.
A game between Sabaskong and Big Grassy was postponed and will be rescheduled to a later date.
Fort Frances Muskies boys soccer team opens play at the all-Ontario high school championship in North Bay with a game against Iona Catholic School out of Mississauga this morning.
They’ll play Sudbury’s St. Charles College later in an afternoon contest.
The all-Ontario high school track and field championships get underway this afternoon in Guelph.
Eight members of the Fort Frances Muskies track and field team are taking part.
Alacae Yerxa and Kenna Spuzak are on the track today.
Yerxa will compete in preliminaries of the senior girls 1500 M event while Spuzak runs the same race in the junior division.
Tomorrow Emma Bone will compete in the midget girls javelin throw.
Yerxa will run the senior girls 800 M event.
The Muskies 4 by 440 team of Ayiana Gagne, Kenna Spuzak, Grace Petsnick and Cassie Krawchuk
Sean Husiak, the lone male athlete from Fort High attending, will compete in the senior boys discuss event.
