Local Sports Report For Monday, September 20

Area racers were in Thunder Bay to open a new race track.

Tanner Williamson of Fort Frances won the first-ever modified feature at Dairy Queen International Speedway on Saturday, then finished second yesterday.

Dayton Brady of Devlin won Sunday’s race while Cameron Brown of Rainy River was third.

Brody Strachan of Devlin was third in the mid-west modified feature yesterday with Jamie Davis in fifth.

Williamson scored a second-place finish in Saturday’s race.

In the street stocks, Jesse Thompson of Emo finished third in Sunday’s feature. Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances was fifth.

Thompson was fourth on Saturday.

Fort Frances Muskies football team dropped their home opener Friday, 20-8 to the Dryden Eagles.

Darius Brenna scored on a 3-yard run and then a 2-point convert for the team’s only points.

The Muskies face Kenora’s Beaver Brae Broncos this Friday in Kenora.

International Falls Broncos lost to Mesabi East on Friday 32-6.

Oliver and Jason Gibbons won the Rainy River Walleye Tournament.

They beat out Doug and Solly McBride by almost a full pound.

In Nestor Falls, Jeff and Shelby Gustafson laid claim to the Crow Lake Bass Classic.

Fort Frances Lakers opened their SIJHL season Friday, losing 4-0 to the Dryden Ice Dogs.

They will have their home opener this Friday against Dryden.
