Fort Frances Muskies football team made history Saturday, winning their first-ever Winnipeg High School Football League crown, by taking the Division 3 championship in a 65-49 win over the Churchill Bulldogs.
That’s the most points by one team ever in a championship game.
Offensive player of the game Sean Huziak scored four touchdowns while Carson Noga added three others, including a run back on an interception.
Quarterback Brady Meeks ran for another score.
Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team won their first tournament of the year, beating Kenora’s St. Thomas Aquinas 4-2 in Saturday’s final in Dryden.
Nolan Mann, Jace Jackson, Ashton Cousineau and Connor Nelson provided the goals.
Kyle Uzelman scored the game-winner in overtime as the Fort Frances Lakers defeated Wisconsin 6-5 Saturday.
Uzelman also had four assists for a five-point night.
International Falls Broncos girls hockey team dropped a pair of games to open their season, losing 2-1 to Prairie Centre on Friday and 4-2 to Princeton on Saturday.
Members of the Fort Frances Sunset Country Squash Club were in tournament action in Thunder Bay over the weekend.
Ryley Booth won the C division while Owen Riches was second.
Jenelle Martin was a winner in the D division.
Mike Canfield was 2nd and Josh Councillor placed third in the B division.
Kerry Canfield took third place honours in the Ladies Beginner class.
In the junior division, Aidan Taggart captured the junior A crown while Gabe Gunderson was third.
In junior B play, Hunter Jean was second and Carter Payne tied for third.
