Local Man & Daughter Heading To Stanley Cup Final

A Fort Frances man is giving back to the NHL team he wants to win the Stanley Cup.

Ash Gibbs, a long-time fan of the St. Louis Blues, is part of a team Beard Benefit challenge to raise money for children in cancer care and youth in sport.

Gibbs says he got involved to support the organization who selected his daughter Makayla to skate and meet the team during a regular season game in St. Louis in February.

“I threw out a target out and within two weeks I reached it and just kept going from it to see how much I can raise just being up in the middle of no where. It’s just been amazing,” says Gibbs

As of Monday morning, he was close to $1,400 and was the third-highest fundraiser among all those taking part. He was also doing better than many Blues players who are also participating.

The event will continue until the end of the Stanley Cup finals.

“I know it’s kind of hard it’s not in Fort Frances. I just did a for what they did for my family and how much they just went almost beyond them to help us and they were so generous what they did for my family. I thought if. we could do to give back,” says Gibbs.

The Blues organization have invited to Gibbs back to St. Louis with Makayla to skate as part of pre-game festivities during Game 4 of the finals.
