International Falls Celebrates July 4

International Falls celebrated July 4 with events at Smokey Bear Park for the first time in two years.

Events were cancelled last year because of the pandemic.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Harley Droba admits crowds were down because of the border closure.

“I think we’re all well aware that our Canadian friends not being able to join us this year has really, really slowed down what our 4th of July celebration normally is. With that being said, we had a fantastic turnout with all of the events,” says Droba.

Droba says about twenty groups from Canada who would have participated in the parade were not able to attend.

Canadians were able to view the fireworks display at the end of the evening from strategic spots in Fort Frances.

Droba says he’s looking forward to them taking part next year.

“It’s going to be bigger and better than it was this year. We’re very much hoping that our Canadian friends are able to join us.”
