Increased Usage Seen At Fort Frances Airport

Usage at the Fort Frances airport is still below pre-pandemic levels, but there have been some recently added activity.

The airport recorded 232 aircraft landings in June.

That’s almost double the number seen in May and three times the activity from June 2020.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry aircraft helping to fight area forest fires accounted for much of that traffic.

Operations and Facilities Manager, Travis Rob, says it led to a record-setting month for fuel sales.

“The month of June was the highest fuel sales month in the recorded history of fuel sales at the Fort Frances Airport,” says Rob.

More than 79 thousand litres were sold last month.

For the year to date, there have been forty more landings than in 2020.

There have been more than three times the number of government aircraft and almost triple the number of private aircraft using the airport over last year.

Most of those landings taking place in June.
