Hydro companies penalized for over-billing

More utility companies in northwestern Ontario have been found, over-billing customers.

Fort Frances Power Corp. and Atikokan Hydro are the latest to be penalized by the Ontario Energy Board.

The Ontario Energy Board says the errors relate to miscalculating fixed charges.

The OEB says both companies reported the issues after a similar issue was found with another distributor.

Fort Frances Power implemented corrective measures to their billing systems at the beginning of April.

Atikokan Hydro had its system corrected in May.

Each was penalized $70 by the OEB.

As part of an agreement, each will contribute four years of overcharges to the Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP).

The OEB says it accepted the approach because the refund to customers would have been 25 cents per customer in Atikokan and 14 cents to each customer in Fort Frances.
