Health Unit Issues Easter Weekend Message

The Northwestern Health Unit is stressing to stay within your household to celebrate the Easter long weekend.

“Easter will be different this year as we must not gather with others. We can still stay socially connected even if we stay physically distant,” says Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon. “Examples of safe activities include virtual dinner parties, virtual egg hunts or physically distant drop off of gifts.”

There have been two confirmed cases of the B.1.1.7 variant in the Dryden area.

Dr. Young Hoon warns gatherings over the long weekend could lead to dire outcomes.

“The transmission of COVID-19, including variants of concern, is a risk in our area. Residents should keep within their immediate households for any Easter gatherings and celebrations to protect themselves and others, regardless of vaccination status,” says Dr. Young Hoon.

“Those who plan to gather with people outside of their immediate household should make informed choices and choose lower-risk activities and settings. You must follow the (province’s) gathering size limits, and we encourage you to remain outdoors, rather than indoors, to allow the greatest physical distance possible.”

The health unit adds no matter how you choose to celebrate, show kindness and respect to others by keeping a physical distance, wearing a face mask, staying home when you are sick and getting tested if you have even one symptom of COVID-19.
