Greens Select Candidate For Thunder Bay-Rainy River

The Green Party has its candidate in place for the Thunder Bay-Rainy River Riding.

Amanda Moddejonge is running for the party. She says she felt the need this election to be the face for the party in this region.

“I decided, this time around, I am very focused on seeing politics done differently,” says Moddejonge.

The Thunder Bay-Rainy River candidate adds one of her focuses will be sustainable jobs.

She’s also concerning herself with the future of the Fort Frances mill. If she’s elected, she says she would fight to ensure the town, and not the former owners of the mill, own the rights to the nearby forest.

“As opposed to the rights to the lumber going from company to company to company, and then just being shut down–sitting idle, dormant, whatever–then you’d actually have a better opportunity to manage the lumber.”

Moddejonge also feels the need for better communication between the province and the federal government.

“One of the things I’ve noticed that is contributing to that is the inability for the feds and the province to actually speak.”

The Green Party candidate says she would work across party lines to get things done.
