Government Looking Into False Alert

The Ontario government launching an investigation into the false alert pertaining to the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

The alert, which flashed across people’s phones, televisions and radios yesterday morning, indicated an incident at the station.

A second one, ninety minutes later, stated there was no incident and that the first alert was sent in error.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones says the alert was related to a routing training exercise conducted by the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre which was not intended to be public.

Jones says they’re now looking to see how the error happened and what steps can be taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
