Fort Frances To Ban On-Street Parking During Major Winter Storms

On-street parking in Fort Frances during a major snowstorm will soon be prohibited.

Town council Monday night agreed with the recommendation put forward by Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob.

Rob says it will allow crews to clear snow quicker with having to go around parked vehicles.

“So our recommendation, therefore, is to impose a ban on all streets other than the downtown core during a declared significant weather event under minimum maintenance standards between the hours of 7:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m,” says Rob.

Rob acknowledges some residents may not have an option right now of off-street parking.

“It’s hoped that for those few residents who don’t have an alternative parking solution either they work to establish an alternate parking solution, park at their neighbors, parked at their friends to allow us to get through on the big events and get the roads cleared,” says Rob.

Rob says the ban would not include the downtown core because a ban on overnight parking is already in place.

Council’s approval allows for a more formal by-law to come back to council at a later date.
