Fort Frances to appoint another interim fire chief

A long-time member of the Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service is expected to take over as Interim Fire Chief.

A report from town Administration indicates Wayne Riches was the successful candidate following a search initiated in September.

His appointment still requires council approval, which is anticipated on Monday.

Riches will be the fourth person to hold down the role since the sudden departure of the town’s full-time fire chief, Travis Moffitt, in April 2024.

There has been no word on when, or if, Moffitt is returning.

Chief Administrative Officer Marcel Michaels has been handling fire chief duties since April, but indicated last month that there is a need for someone else to handle the job.

The appointment of Riches is identified as being for 12 months in length.
