Fort Frances ready to celebrate Canada Day

Legion Park will be the site of Canada Day festivities in Fort Frances.

There will be a number of family activities taking place sponsored by the Beyak Automotive Group.

Spokesperson Hayley Trimble says they will get underway at around noon on Tuesday.

“We have a lot of community members coming to help us,” says Trimble.

“Community Living Fort Frances will be there giving away surprises and having an activity.

There’s going to be the museum on-site with us. The West Rainy River Lions Club is there with their food.

“And there’s all kinds of fun carnival-inspired games that we have come up with this year.

Some of the things are the same as last year, like rock painting. We’re going to have our bouncy house, and then you guys can go over and play on the splash park or the go over to the playground and just like make a fun day for everybody.”

New this year will be a candy giveaway.

“We’re all going to we’re going to have a big race. It’s kind of like a scavenger hunt sort of thing, and everyone’s gonna get a big bag of candy,” says Trimble.

The parade is set to start at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Sorting Gap Marina, with the route travelling along Front Street toward LaVerendrye General Hospital.

“So far, we do have a pretty decent sign-up, but we’re always looking for more participants.

You can go to either Sunset Country Ford or Fort Frances GM’s Facebook page, and there’s a link to a Google Doc to sign up your float with all the details.

Trimble says they are also encouraging children to take part by decorating their bicycles to ride in the parade.

Each will receive a participation prize.
