An incredible season from the Fort Frances Lakers starting goalie continues to be recognized.
After already being named as this season’s Rookie of the Year and Goalie of the Year, Brady Cates has been also named as this season’s Most Valuable Player.
Brady, who is from Emo, Ontario had an exceptional rookie season, posting a 20-4-1-0 record, a 1.84GAA, and a 0.936SV% – landing him in the top 10 SIJHL goaltenders of all-time. His historic season is the best of any under 18 goaltender in the league history.
Brady was undefeated on home ice, had 3 shutouts, and was instrumental in the Lakers 1st place finish.
Goalies typically split games throughout the season, but during a difficult stretch of 6 games in 12 days late in the season, Brady played every game while the other goalie was recovering from an injury. He was the difference for the team in several “must-win” games through that stretch that included wins vs Sioux Lookout, Dryden, and Thunder Bay. In those 6 games, Brady was 5-1 with 2 shutouts, a 1.50 GAA, and a 0.947 SV% to cement the team’s position in 1st place.
